Two young teenage girls from two different New England towns vanish almost 20 years apart, leaving two families looking for answers and for justice. Can new information break both cold cases wide open? Elizabeth Vargas reports two “Vanished” cases on “20/20” airing FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network.

It was an ordinary afternoon in late November 1971 when 13-year-old Kathy Gloddy went with her trusted dog to buy candy from a local store. Only her dog returned. What happened next is a mystery that has haunted her family and her small New Hampshire town for almost 40 years. Was the answer all along hiding at the top of the stairs with a man who once rented a room in the Gloddy family home?

And: The quiet streets of Woburn, Mass. are decorated with ghosts and goblins this Halloween season. But this year also marks the 20th anniversary of a macabre local mystery that is terrifyingly real: the sudden disappearance of almost 15-year-old Melanie Melanson, who was last seen at a high school party in the woods on the outskirts of town. Neither the Melanson family nor the police have ever given up, and recently a new reward was announced. A few weeks ago, investigators returned to the scene acting, they say, on a tip they just received. Will this cold case finally be broken?

20/20” airs on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network.

20/20” is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas. David Sloan is executive producer.
