WHERE’S HEIDI? BY LISA BUSKE

Lisa Buske releases Where’s Heidi today. I stopped in NY to meet Lisa on my way home from New Hampshire. She is a beautiful spirit and I’m honored to call her my friend. Heidi was 18 when she was kidnapped, her body has never been found. It was 1994 when Heidi went missing from a local convenience store. In A Child Is Missing I talk about the small blessings a person clings to while dealing with murder. Kathy was found the following day, I’m thankful for that. I pray for Lisa and her family that one day Heidi will be found. Lisa is a courageous sister trying to make a difference. Along the way she forgave God and now He leads her all the way! Congratulations Lisa!

  1. It’s so sad that people take children (and even adults) from their families and sometimes do such horrific things to them or imprison them for years. It seems to be happening more and more all the time. I sincerely hope that Lisa gets the answers she so deserves. It’s never easy to lose a family member no matter what the circumstances. I know this because I too lost a sibling. However, my sister was ill, which doesn’t make losing her any easier, but at least I know what happened. I think the wondering alone in some of these cases would be enough to drive me insane. Just like with my friends who are wondering what really happened to their sister Wendy who died under very suspicious circumstances. It’s hard enough to lose a loved one without wondering if or how much they suffered and at the hands of whom this happened. Another case that haunts me is the case of Maura Murray who has also never been found. The spot she was last seen isn’t far from where I live and whenever I drive by that big blue ribbon hanging on the tree beside the road, it makes me start wondering about her all over again. I think about her case often anyway and I don’t even know her or her family. It’s all just very sad that we can’t freely let our children out to play without worrying about some stranger (or even someone we know for that matter) coming along and taking them. It’s sad that we can no longer feel safe in our homes due to home invasions and robberies. I just can’t imagine what things will be like by the time my youngest children are old enough to have children of their own. The world can be such a scary place now.

  2. Dear Robin,

It is excruciating when anyone is kidnapped. No matter how our loved ones pass on it’s painful. We miss and long to see them. Death is one of the greatest trials each of us face.

I’ve helped the family of Wendy, Beth and Dawn have become good friends. I’ve had over forty years of experience dealing with law enforcement and the media and I don’t believe Wendy’s death was an accident. This is a tough case. It’s one that we must hope in the future that something will be exposed through the people that really know what happened. Good people in law enforcement have expressed to me how frustrating it is when you know whom the killer is and there isn’t enough evidence to make an arrest.

I know about Maura Murray and think of her often. I wonder what happened to her and feel sad that her family doesn’t know where she is. Families need to have their loved ones home, one-way or another. My daughters lived in that area and it’s awful to know that something like that happened close to where they were. I’ve seen the blue ribbon.

The world can be a scary place and it can overshadow the beauty that’s in. We all need to be proactive in making it better. Whatever it takes, changing laws, promoting agencies that fight crime, helping those that have just begun the journey of sorrow.

Thank you Robin for contacting me.
    Take care,
    Karen

    1. Thank you for responding Karen. Dawn and Beth both speak very highly of you. I see Dawn daily during the week as I babysit Emily for her. I agree with you about Wendy’s case and I can only hope that someone can find the proof needed to bring Wendy’s killer to justice in the near future. This person has walked around freely for far too long.

I recently went by the tree with the blue ribbon and there is now a wreath of flowers on the tree with it. I actually took some pictures of it. It’s such a beautiful tribute, but always gives me such a sense of sadness.

I’m sincerely hoping that the Cold Case Unit will be around for a long, long time. It will always get my vote, I just wish there was something more I could do. I believe this unit is much needed in order to bring guilty people to justice while giving the families of victims the answers they so much deserve and need in order to gain some sense of closure.

God Bless you for all you do.
      Sincerely,
      Robin

      1. Give Dawn a hug for me. Not having answers is very painful. The unknown haunts us. I hope that the Cold Case Unit does continue. I would hate to see cold cases once again sit on the shelves in limbo.

  3. Karen,

You are too, too, sweet! I love you and although me had to meet through our personal tragedies, I am blessed to call you friend. God used both our sisters’ tragedies to share with others the hope for happiness and joy, in spite of what the world might toss at us. I’m glad we were able to meet in person too!

    Hugs,
